Post-Graduate Certification in School Counseling

Application Procedures

Thank you for your interest in the Post-Graduate Certification Program in School Counseling. Applicants who hold a Master's degree in another counseling area and desire add-on courses for school counseling certification must complete the application process described below in order to be considered for the program. Prior teaching experience is not required.

Eligibility for the program is based on a transcript review of prior graduate studies to ensure that applicants who finish the program will have the coursework equivalent to the department’s M.Ed. in School Counseling. If you are interested in applying, the first step in the process involves having the transcript review conducted. Please contact LaJuene Black in the College of Education Services and Field Experiences Office at 706-568-2191. She can inform you of the procedure. All materials will eventually be forwarded to the School Counseling program coordinator, at which time a transcript review will be conducted and then you’ll be sent a letter outlining the courses you'd need for the certification program.

After the transcript review is completed, applicants must apply to the CSU Admissions Office AND complete a departmental application that may be obtained from the Department of Counseling, Educational Leadership, and Professional Studies website at http://celps.colstate.edu). In addition, successful completion of an interview with departmental faculty is required for entrance into the program. Interviews will be conducted only after potential candidates have applied for admission and are qualified, based on assessment of a completed application file. Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for admission:

1. Completed transcript review

2. An earned master's degree in counseling from an accredited college or university

3. A graduate GPA (on all attempted graduate coursework) of 3.25/4.0 or higher

4. A GRE score of 900 or higher

5. Eligibility for certification in school counseling

6. Completion of CSU and departmental admissions packet

DEADLINES: All applications are due on April 13th for consideration for Summer admission, July 6th for consideration for Fall admission, and November 9th for consideration for Spring admission.
